STEP 9 - WHAT ABOUT GRAPHICS?

If photographs are not the best way to illustrate a story, there are other ways. Things like informative graphics or even cartoons.

STEP 10 - CUT-OUTS

Cut-outs can be effective if you want to focus on just one individual - or if you want to get rid of that hideous wallpaper. And think of partial cut-outs - an arm or part of leg, or the top of a head protruding out of a picture can draw the reader’s eye. Don’t cut-out small pictures as the effect is lost.

STEP 11 - IT ALL COMES OUT IN THE WASH

A colour wash, with a colour taken from the picture and in a low percentage, can have the effect of framing a picture and pushing it forward. And if you are going to use colour in other areas of the page, then be consistent. Use only two or three and take those from the main picture.

STEP 12 - SEQUENCES

Do you have a number of pictures which tell a story? If so, use them all the same size, in sequence, and  maybe number them.
